THE biggest OF ALL TUNES (G.O.A.T.) is a series of posts, creating my 100 preferred tunes of all time.  The master listing is here, as well as I update it about every two weeks or when I have one more 10 tunes or so. Today, I’m doing a whole lot of GOATs all in a row. A lot of posts, a lot of cover versions!

Troubadour Tom Waits has great deals of excellent songs, as well as great deals of excellent records, so why is my pick for his biggest of All Tunes “The Heart of Saturday Night?”  Well, it’s my preferred Waits record, for one thing, based not just on this tune however likewise on tunes like diamonds on my Windshield, Fumblin’ with the Blues, as well as new coat of Paint.  For another, it captures his capability to evoke brilliant imagery as well as craft poetic like songs—he’s like a a lot more charming version of Bruce Springsteen.

Further listening: I like a great deal of Waits’ songs, however here’s the true G.O.A.T.s: Ol’ 55, jersey Girl, What’s He Building, downtown Train, Pasties as well as a G-String, as well as Hold On.

Covers: Shawn Colvin’s is the best, however the others are great too.
