ATMOSPHERE-To All My Friends, Blood Makes The Blade holy (EPs?)

by

If you’re reading my site as well as you don’t understand who environment is, I can’t tell you, really.   This year, they’ve released what they’re calling a “double EP” of new jamz: To All My Friends, Blood Makes The Blade Holy: The environment EPs.  Why is this an EP?  I dunno.  seems like an album to me.  as well as a damn great one.

When rappers begin acting their age, their fan base usually abandons them.  sometimes they phone call off totally (see: Jay-Z), however other times they just get older as well as can’t discover a new audience (KRS-One, e.g.) or run out of new things to state (Snoop).   I’m sure “real” hip hop heads will modification channels when they hear Slug rapping about being a father, the perils of dangerous sex, working a 9 to 5, as well as the war in Iraq.  however that would be a damn shame.  since there’s a new type of depth here.  No, it’s not all the gritty, cynical street stories you’ve come to expect from this versatile, clear-spoken as well as crisp lyricist (although there are a few of these, too)–but provide it a chance.

Ant is still one of the very best producers in the biz, as well as this time around they’re working with online instrumentation.  There’s some familar cuts right here (the optimistic piano-bounce of the very best Day, e.g.), however the beats are fresher than what I’ve heard Ant decrease on his most recent project. The music is more optimistic–cleaner.  as well as so are Slug’s lyrics.  He’s understood for a more-is-more style, cramming as much material as possible in every bar as well as verse–Slug’s more laid back here.

It’s as if they understand they’ve got 12 years in the game, as well as they got nothing to prove anymore.
